The Balian Rouge 2021 from Domaine de l’Angèle is a rare expression of Mourvèdre — powerful yet remarkably refined. Sourced from 70-year-old vines with tiny yields, it bursts with aromas of ripe figs, blackcurrant and Provençal herbs. The palate is rich and spicy, with silky tannins and a long, warm finish. Aged for a year in 600L oak demi-muids, this wine reveals true southern depth and elegance. Complex, full of character, and perfect with lamb, game or simply shared among friends.
Domaine de l'Angèle - Balian – 2021
Domaine de l’Angèle’s Balian Rouge 2021 is an expressive IGP Vaucluse made from 100% Mourvèdre, sourced from old, low-yielding vines. Deep ruby in colour, it offers aromas of ripe figs, blackberries and subtle spices, leading to a generous, silky palate with refined tannins and a long, elegant finish.
Powerful yet graceful, it pairs beautifully with grilled meats, lamb, game or aged cheeses. Serve at 16–17 °C.
The Mourvèdre grapes are harvested late (often by late October) at peak maturity. After complete destemming, fermentation takes place in concrete vats at a controlled temperature (max. 25 °C) to preserve fruit character. The wine then undergoes a long maceration (up to 40 days) for optimal extraction.
Finally, it is aged for one year in 600L oak demi-muids, enhancing texture and complexity without overpowering the fruit. The grapes come from the estate’s oldest vineyards (50–70 years), which naturally produce low yields and highly concentrated fruit.
